Stupid babies think their so cute

This isn't a rant Per-Se it's just a little question that came to me as I was typing...

So, I visited my sister in law and her new baby (2.5 months old) and while she is very cute she makes me realize how useless children are for the first few years of their life. They are even unable to eat enough in one sitting to sustain themselves (and how can a baby poop when it's constantly on a liquid diet?). The can't sit up or even work there little feet and arms properly.

It points out how little the human race doesn't fit into the world as we know it. There are species on this planet that are able to walk right after being born.

So my question is, why isn't this something that geneticists working on? I mean while your trying to heal diseases in the womb lets try to have children advance faster before they are born. I'm not talking running around and stuff but at least able to hold there own body up.
